KORE (2018)

Written, directed, and designed by Mackenzie Burton

Choreography by Gillian Clare

Kore is a feminist, contemporary rewriting of the classic Greek myth: The Rape of Persephone. In this version we see Persephone (now Kore) battling for freedom against the denizens of the underworld. Premiering in the Beck Theatre Creation Festival in December 2018, Kore was an exploration of movement, imagery, and form. Utilizing various techniques in set, costume, lighting, and movement, Mackenzie was able to push boundaries of performance and broaden his directorial point of view.
